NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Families,
Who would have imagined at the beginning of this week that we would end the week in Level 3 lockdown once again.
Our much anticipated Feast Day celebrations due to take place today have been postponed as a result. This special day in our school and parish calendar is explained further in the Director of Religious Studies section of this newsletter.
Thank you to all families who have listened to the government’s advice and kept their children at home.
It appears that the COVID situation in Auckland is changing rapidly. We will keep you updated as things change, and, as mentioned in my communication earlier this week, should we be required to remain in Level 3 lockdown beyond midnight tonight our school-led learning from home programmes will be relaunched on Monday.
Stay safe everyone. God bless

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES
August 15 – The Feast of the Assumption of Mary
The Feast of the Assumption is our school and parish Patronal Feast. It is the day we honour Mary, the Mother of Jesus, Mother of us all, as we remember how she was assumed into heaven, body and soul. Pope John Paul II presented Mary as a model of what it means to be a faithful disciple. She heard the word of God and acted on it. We too are called to do this as followers of Jesus. Her life would not have been an easy one. Like many today she knew hardship, poverty and heartbreak. Yet she also knew love, joy and peace. Her life story is a model for us of maia, manaaki, tika, awhina, and ngawari.
Parish Feast Day Celebrations
The Feast of the Assumption is also our parish Feast Day. The original plan was to gather in the Parish Centre after 6.30 p.m. Mass tomorrow night for a light shared supper, however, based on the current COVID situation, this has now been postponed.
Throughout the month of August we remember others who heard the call of God and lived their lives as witnesses for us.
St Dominic – August 4
After he had an apparition of Our Lady, he promoted the Rosary until the day he died.
St Maximillion Kolbe – August 14
Volunteered to die in place of a stranger in the German death camp of Auschwitz.
St Augustine – August 28
An early Christian theologian. One of his well known sayings is “When we sing we pray twice.”
Each one of them helps us to come to know Christ through their words and deeds.
Alpha Programme starts on Sunday, 23 August with a dinner in the Parish Centre at 7 p.m. Our cooks will prepare a scrumptious meal; you may meet fellow parishioners you didn’t know before & learn their names; we tell you what Alpha is all about & answer questions; and invite you to the next programme.
See you there; Bring a friend.
Me whakakā to wairua kia kite a iwi katoa
You should be a shining lamp, giving light to all around you
Prayer Intention: May we be open to your plans for us Lord, with a listening heart and respond with a generous spirit.
Keep safe. God Bless
