Chess Nationals

Palmerston North Competition

Congratulations to our Chess champions who went to Palmerston North on the first weekend of the holidays to compete in the NZ Chess Federation Nationals.

All the students did incredibly well and came out 7th overall at the end of the competition in a field of 26 schools.

Congratulations Emily, Joseph, Aaron, Wesley and William, who was the team reserve.

Christchurch Competition

On Friday the 18th of October Wesley Lau, Emily Chan, Aaron Santoso Joseph and William Chen, Mr Cooper and Mrs Noble-Campbell flew to Christchurch for the Chess Power Chess Nationals.

The competition, being a National event, was high and all of our players had to perform at their very best throughout the day. In total nine games were played by each competitor.

The team are very proud to say that they came 5th overall out of a field of 30 junior teams, which is absolutely amazing!

The team were rewarded with a certificate of excellence in chess and the honour of beating our nearest rivals, Point View School, whom we qualified with!

Congratulations to Wesley who was ranked 4th best player in the competition with a score of 7 out of 9.

Our sincere thanks go out to Mr Cooper for his amazing coaching throughout this year and the previous years that he has coached the team and also to our school community who helped with our fund-raising by supporting us at our bake sales through Term 2.
