This special ceremony which includes karanga, a short speech and a waiata (song), will take place immediately before the 6pm Vigil Mass, marking Father Rob’s first official Mass with us. As tangata whenua we will gather to extend aroha and hospitality to Father Rob and his whānau.  All parishioners and whānau are warmly invited to attend. Please bring a plate of finger food to share with a cup of tea after Mass. Please make this Mass of Welcome a priority for your family.

Sunday 9 November

  • Farewell & Handing Over of Father John 10:00am Mass at Christ the King Church, Owairaka. Join us as we honour and farewell Father John as he moves to his new parish of Christ the King, Owairaka. As manuhiri (visitors), the Star of the Sea whānau will gather at the entrance of Christ the King Church before the 10am Mass. Led by a karanga, we will process to the altar, surrounding Father John with love and gratitude. The ceremony will include a short speech, a shared waiata (Mo Maria), and a symbolic handing over to Christ the King Parish.
