Dear Families

RESCHEDULE of TEACHER ONLY DAY to Friday 12th November. The Board agreed Teacher Only day scheduled for Friday 19th November sits in the week where there is the possibility of schools being asked to reopen in some capacity. Although we do not have any further direction as to whether this will happen, the school didn’t want the possibility of a Teacher Only Day that week to further complicate family organisation should we be open. Therefore, the Board have agreed to shift this Teacher Only Day to Friday 12th November. In doing so, we hope to minimise disruption to families.
On Friday 12th November teachers will be engaged in a review of our local curriculum and will therefore not be posting online classwork or be available to respond to work posted by children.
Shubh Diwali! Happy Diwali!
This week has seen the celebration of Diwali or Deepavali, also known as the Indian Festival of Lights.
Our wonderful Information Centre portal is full of Diwali learning tasks for children to explore and discover new things about this exciting and vibrant time of family celebration. Links to these activities, stories, music, dancing, food and art & craft have been shared with classes via seesaw and google classroom or can be found via the link below.
More information about the Auckland Diwali Festival which has had to be celebrated online this year, can be found here:
Armistice Day -11 November
At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month each year, people around the world stop for a moment to remember the end of World War 1. The message of peace and being peacemakers, as Christ asks us to be, is one for us all to hold onto especially during these times of uncertainty. In memory of the men and women who died at the time and all our loved ones who are now in the arms of Jesus we pray….  ‘Eternal rest grant unto them, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the rest in peace.’
Twilight Market Cancelled

Another casualty of the uncertainty of returning to school timelines and limits on numbers gathering together outside, is our Twilight Market.  Although we hope to be at school on the scheduled date of 2 December, there is insufficient time to prepare and ensure we are able to obey all gathering and vaccination / negative testing protocols of those families entering the school site.  We will donate any perishable goods we have collected i.e. chocolate, to our local church foodbank.  Let us hope that we can have a celebration early in 2022.

Congratulations to our netball girls

Howick Netball Club have had to cancel the last two games of the winter league competition and therefore the  2021 season is over.  Obviously, not what they wanted, but probably expected by all.  I think we can all be quite grateful that we were able to see the vast majority of the season with freedom prior to the Level 4 Lockdown mid August.

Mike Bidois Emerging Talent & Potential Cup

This year we had 4 nominations from our coaches.  They were:

Sherene Rolle, Ariane Cordeiro, Gianna Cordeiro and Payton Williams.

This years recipient is Payton Williams.

Chontelle and I would like to congratulate Payton for all her hard work behind the scenes at the beginning of the season, as well as her dedication to the game and her team.  Her passion for the game has grown over the year and we think she has all the makings of a beautiful netballer in the future.  She absolutely deserves to receive this award.

We would also like to congratulate Sherene, Ariane and Gianna.  The reasons why you were nominated blew us away.  We are super proud to have you all playing and representing Star of the Sea Netball.

Finally, as this is the last season with Star of the Sea Netball Club for Fleur, after 8 years of coaching and being involved, we as a school would like to thank you Fleur for the hours you have put into the game for our girls.  Your passion and enthusiasm for giving our girls the opportunity to play and enjoy netball is truly appreciated.  We wish you well and know you will still be supporting netball somewhere over the coming years.
