Cricket

Having won all our seven pool games we played our semi-final against Mission Heights.  The second place getter in the other pool. The winner would play the final.

John Pieters gave us a really good start bowling their opening batter with the first ball.  We kept them under pressure and eventually they scored 38 in their eight overs.

Cole Tomkies opened the batting and scored 17 not out and we beat them with two overs left.  We had made the final, and were to play Cockle Bay.

Cockle Bay were trying to win the competition for the fourth year in a row and last year they were the Auckland Primary Schools champion team.

We lost the toss but after three overs our school was 35 runs thanks to a great start from Aidan Stackpole (16 runs), Cole Tomkies 9 not out and Luke Dougherty 16 not out.   Other batsmen contributed well and we finished on 60 runs after our 8 overs.  This was a very respectable total against a good bowling attack.

Their score matched ours as each over ticked by.  Ryder Brownrigg bowling a double wicket maiden including a fantastic catch off his own bowling and a run out meant we ended the 4th over with them on 34 runs compared to us being on 39 runs after 4 overs.  Connor Waters and Aidan Stackpole then bowled tight overs.   This left them with 8 runs to win of the final over.  Unfortunately for us they got the win on the 3rd ball of the final over.

The game was a fantastic nail-biter and all you would want from a final.  Well done boys, you competed so well again the best.
