ACTIVITIES TO SUPPORT HANDWRITING
Rolling, squeezing, pinching, pulling dough - roll out shapes to make letters of name
Sand tray - cover tray with film of sand, finger trace letters/name in sand
Squirty bottle filled with water - squirt letter shape/name on concrete
Paintbrush and water container - use wetbrush to “paint” letters/name on concrete
Magnetic letters on the fridge - find letters to make name .... dad’s name, mum’s name etc .. break and make the word
Whiteboard and whiteboard markers to write letters/name
Rainbow letters - use wad of newspaper to make rainbow letter - go over and over letter shape with different coloured crayons/felts -
say shape of letter as writing
e.g.
around up and down for the letter ‘d’ -

make movements

Use correct letter formation guide/be aware of pencil grip encourage “bird beak” grip
