CULTURAL
Generally four times per year a cultural item is organised for the pupils. These are organised to reinforce the importance of the arts.
GIFTED AND TALENTED
Y1-3 children are generally catered for within the classroom programme by exposing them to a variety of opportunities. Selected choir and instrumental groups are established.
Specialist teachers are employed for The Arts, namely music and visual.
Children in senior classes are encouraged to extend themselves by participation in a wide range of activities both within and outside the school in academic, cultural and sporting areas.
These may include New South Wales exams, problem solving challenges, choir and instrumental groups, sporting events, drama, dance festival, New Zealand Writers Quiz, Otago Problem Solving, B.P. Technology Challenge.
INTERNET
Children may use the internet for research during school hours.
The Information Area is monitored during this time.
While all use of computers is closely monitored no responsibility is taken for children gaining unauthorised access accidentally or with intent to inappropriate sites.
Alongside each computer or computer hub are guidelines to ensure safe use and what access is gained. New parents too are informed about school procedure.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Children are expected to participate in a skills based sports and physical education programme. They are to wear their sports uniform and should have it at school every day. When a child is to be excused from Phys. Ed., then a signed note is required.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Mass, Reconciliation, Liturgies and celebrations of other special occasions throughout the year, are arranged by the D.R.S. and Parish Priest in conjunction with the Principal and staff.
Preparation courses for the reception of the Sacraments are arranged and conducted by the parish community.
SWIMMING
We use a local community pool for tutored swimming lessons for a concentrated period during the year. Because it is part of the Health & Physical Education Essential Learning area, all children are expected to participate. If not swimming for medical reasons, a signed ‘note’ is necessary.
